TIPS & TRICKS FOR WORKING FROM HOME by Ann
In order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 many companies have asked many of their employees to work from home. Many people who either already worked from home or they split their time between work from home and their corporate offices have taught themselves how to focus, resist temptations and tune out non-work distractions. Working from home is not quite as easy as you might think. Distractions are all over the place, begging for your attention, the kids, the family pet, laundry, lunch, clean up and I could go on & on. Working from home takes a lot of focus and discipline. For those of you who are doing this for the first time, here are some of my suggestions to help make the transition more efficient and productive.
Tip #1: Build a permanent workspace in your home
It is important to designate a workspace in your home to increase productivity. Whether it is a spare bedroom or a nook in your kitchen, creating a space for your computer and other essential work supplies allows for maximum focus and productivity.
Tip #2: Make to-do lists or use a planner
It can be extremely difficult to keep track of tasks throughout your workday. It’s easy to lose sight of priorities, tasks, and deadlines. TODOIST is a great app that allows you to keep track of your day-to-day activities, errands, and other tasks.
Tip #3: Transfer your commute time to intentional rest time
Use the time you’d normally use for the commute to detach yourself from work and allow yourself intentional ‘rest’ periods. This allows you to clear your mind and create a sense of peace before/after your workday.
Tip #4: Remove distractions and set a schedule for them
Everyone wants to check their social media but there’s a time and place. Set a schedule to catch up on social media, whether it is lunch or during your intentional rest time. Stay Focused is a great app that allows you to block social media notifications between specific time periods and also helps track your app usage.
Tip #5: Manage expectations by setting goals
It can be easy to lose track of time when working from home. Prioritize tasks in order of importance and set goals and deadlines to help you achieve them!
